The history of Guan Lin
More than 70 years ago A.L. Fase taught judo at the catholic neighborhood centers of the Hague. In 1955 he officially founded the judo club Guan Lin. His goal was to teach the youth respect for each other by means of working out. Because judo is a very intense sport, he also hoped to reduce the amount of aggression in the children
With that background judo was taught at multiple neighborhood centers. In 1957 Guan Lin joined the NAJA (Dutch Amature Judo Association). The NAJA later became the NJJB (Dutch Judo and Jiu-Jitsu Association) and later still the JBN (Dutch Judo Association).
Door de verschillende clubhuizen werd besloten om één naam te gebruiken voor wedstrijden en examens; het werd “Guan Lin”. In 1963 besloten de buurthuizen om de Guan Lin op de buurthuis De Boskant te situeren. In 2015 werd de Boskant opgeheven en verhuisde Guan Lin naar Buurtcentrum de Mussen.
Vanaf de aanvang is er altijd veel belangstelling van de jeugd geweest om te gaan judoën op de clubhuizen. Een gevolg was dat de jeugd ook op een ander clubhuis ging judoën dan waar ze oorspronkelijk lid waren. Als clubhuis activiteit is het judo een groot succes gebleken.
Over the years we have also booked a number of judo successes. With at least 20 national and 65 Regional champion titles. Also internationally impressive results have been achieved. To name a few of our judoka:

Even now we still value our initial fundamental goal of our founder A.L. Fase. We are also proud that the Kameraden Divisie was founded at our judo club in 2021. So: Guan Lin isn't just a club with a rich past, but also one with a hopeful future!
